The Great Pee Dee begins in the mountains of North Carolina and travels more than 230 miles. The lower 70-mile stretch was designated a State Scenic River in 2002. It's home to 120 species of fish, bald eagles, and swallow-tailed kites — and none of it is more than thirty minutes from downtown Florence.
